Marhaba Lounge, Melbourne Airport
Located within the T2 international terminal, the new Marhaba Lounge is Melbourne Airport’s first pay-to-enter lounge. Rodine’s scope was to deliver the refurbishment of the existing premise within a five-week period; including demolition and make-good works, new floor finishes, painting, a facelift to the existing joinery units along with new feature banquette seating and planter boxes and the replacement of existing laminate benchtops with stone.
Being airside and through security checkpoints, it was necessary to maintain effective processes, both in terms of project management and site coordination. Construction tools needed to be checked through security and accounted for on completion of works when trade personnel left. All deliveries of materials and equipment as well as waste removal required escorts and pre-booking to ensure that the building program ran seamlessly. This project was again built within a ‘live’ environment – Rodine’s area of expertise.
It could be suggested that an airport is a challenging place to work in terms of access, security protocols and deliveries. However, Rodine's understanding of the processes and procedures required for the site, and their focus on excellent stakeholder communication, made for a straightforward and successful build. Rodine has been a constant presence at the airport since mid-2015, with a variety of projects under its belt. The Marhaba Lounge received considerable media coverage upon its opening, and has been a great success for Melbourne Airport.
