In 2014, fire devastated a much-loved bistro and TAB in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. After being engaged in the aftermath of the fire to secure the site and make the remaining structures safe, Rodine successfully tendered for reconstruction.
Working with fire-damaged structures presents several challenges. For example, as work progressed on the site, excavations revealed melted services and structural steel that on initial inspection had appeared sound. Also, working with multiple insurance companies required excellent negotiation and cost management skills. Rodine adapted effectively to these conditions to ensure that the structural work was completed within 16 weeks.
Additional OHS precautions were necessary because fire had rendered the site hazardous. Rodine put in place exemplary processes to manage safety issues to ensure no incidents impacted the project.
